FITNESS AND HEALTH

I got this e-mail and thought it was hysterical...

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
______________________________________

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat ? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
________________________________________

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
________________________________________

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!
________________________________________

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more ve getables be bad for you?
_______________________________________

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
_______________________________________

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

________________________________________

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me. ________________________________________

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways -body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride"

What's That You Say?

This morning Rylie asked me "how does cheese help us breathe?" I thought for a few minutes, trying to remember what in the world we had learned about in school that would've made that child think cheese was going to help her breathe.

Finally I said very delicately "I dont think cheese can help you breathe"
She giggled and said "noooo...trees. How do trees help us breathe?" Ahhhh, yes. We did talk about trees making the oxygen that we use to breathe. That makes way more sense.

It reminded me of a conversation that my mom and I had when I was in ninth grade.

Me: Sara had her baby at school today!
Mom: (Eyes bugging out of her head)She HAD her baby at school?
Me: yep!
Mom: Where was the teacher?
Me: She was right there teaching math.
Mom: Where were the boys?
Me: Right there, looking at the baby. He was very cute!
By now she was getting irritated at my nonchalance
Mom: Did someone get the principal?
Me: Why? He dosen't mind.
Mom: He doesn't mind? She repeated with a sarcastic tone.
Me: Nope.
Mom: Where were her parents?
Me: At work...what is the matter?
Mom: You mean a ninth grade girl had her baby at school and nobody called her parents?
Me: She isn't in my class, she just...It was okay, I am sure her parents knew!
Mom: An ninth grader had a baby at school and ...
Me: She was only there a few minutes.
Mom: Oh, so they called an ambulance?
Me: Why?!? ( I was getting so frustrated by now... she was starting to break a sweat)She just wanted to show Mrs. Curtis her baby, what is the big deal...
Mom: Oh, she BROUGHT her baby to school?
Me: YES! That is what I said! She had her baby at shool...

Then mass hysteria. She craked up more than I have ever seen her laugh. It was so funny. I had no idea what in the world she was so upset about. She kept laughing and through her giggles she would say one word at a time--She...BROUGHT...her...baby...to...school...to...show...your...
teacher...I...thought..she...HAD...her...baby...at...school!!! Then I got it...and she was right it was pretty stinkin' funny!

A Great Day

Sometimes you just start out knowing it’s going to be a great day.

Early this morning Tori mentioned donuts. It sounded like a great idea to me so I jumped in the car and went to this yummy donut place by our house. I had to wake everyone up when I got home to come down for breakfast. We ate yummy donuts and cold cold milk. Paigie had a powdered sugar lemon filled thing that made her smile. Rylie and Whitty had sprinkles, Tori had plain glazed, and I had the best Bavarian cream chocolate covered donut I have ever tasted. We sat and visited and laughed about stuff and had a nice morning.

It is the simple things sometimes, the things that on other days would not mean anything, that make all the difference. We needed just a little diversion today. We got one and it looked a lot like a donut.

Let the Games Begin

I love American Idol!!! I am really excited about the people this season. I have a good track record for picking the winner. I chose Carrie Underwood from her first audition. I knew it would be Taylor Hicks from the first Hollywood day. I wanted Blake to win, but figured it would be Jordin. This year I am stumped. There are a couple that I love. So how does everyone else feel? Any real stand out performances?

It will be interesting thats for sure.

I'm It

My friend, Kerri tagged me. For those of you who don't know what being "tagged" means, I'll explain. Being tagged is when a friend, who has a blog, answers the questions below on her blog. Then once they finish answering the questions, they tag 3 or 4 people, who also have blogs, to answer the same questions on their blog. So once I am finished answering the following questions, I will tag a few people, and then they will have to answer the questions on their blog... Does that make ANY sense?

All about my Hubby......

What is his name? Rich, Ricardo, Babe, Daddy, and his favorite Richie

How long have you been married? 13 wonderful years

How long did you date? We met in at Weber State and we were friends for a few months before we finally started dating (I had a boyfriend...)Rich and I would hang out and talk on the phone a lot. One day I mentioned Rich's name one too many times to the boyfriend. He finally asked me if there was something he needed to know. I thought for a second and said maybe so...we broke up and Rich asked me out that day. We got married about 2 years later. Best thing that ever happened to me.

How old is he? He just turned 37

Who said "I love you first?" Rich, while he thought I was asleep. I had been thinking it for a long time before that though.

Who is taller? When we are standing he is a lot taller, when we sit down I am taller.

Who eats more sweets? Tie. We both like sweets too much!

Who can sing better? He would say I sing better but he would just be being modest. He sings better. I think genetically he is predispositioned to sing he comes from a very musical family.

Who is smarter? Academically, he is brilliant (not that I'm a dunce or anything.-well said Kerri, I am leaving it there-)We both are clever in different ways.

Who does the laundry? That would be me. Except for now he is doing his own laundry...in Utah...

Who pays the bills? He does, thank goodness I cant stand doing that.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Rich

Who mows the lawn? He does!!! Horray!! I cant stand that either.

Who cooks dinner? I do. When Rich is charge for dinner they have cereal(in his defense, they love that!)

Who drives? UGh, I hate to drive. I do my fair share of helping from the passenger side of the car. He loves it when I do that...right babe?

Who is more stubborn? good question. Dont know.

Who kissed who first? Rich kissed me first.

Who asked who out first? He asked me.

Who proposed? Rich

Who has more siblings? Rich--he is the oldest of 7 I am the youngest of 6

Okay, I tag Andrae, Heather, Mia, Lora and Barb!! Okay guys, spill. Just copy and past and then change the answers to be about your hunny...have fun!

Nostalgia

When I got up this morning the new American Girl catalog is strategically placed in front of my computer monitor. It has some strange markings on it, upon further inspection (and past experience) I figured out what they were. My girls love to go through the catalogs and place their initials next to each and every item they are hoping to receive at some point. I love it. They don’t often get these things except for birthdays or Christmas, but they remain ever hopeful. It reminds me of a bygone era.

I remember as a kid waiting for the new Sears and Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog to come out and I would do the same thing. I would go through and doggy-ear all the pages with things I loved and then going back through and circling everything I loved in hopes that Santa would somehow read my copy and catch a hint. I loved all the pretty clothes and shoes. I loved the dolls and the doll equipment. I loved the Barbies and the carrying cases. I loved the miniature piano and, are you kidding me, there is a violin in the catalog?!?, and the wonderful Barbie house with the elevator that went up and down when you pulled a string, and the roller skates that looked like tennis shoes with enormous wheels,And Holly Hobbie, and well, it went on and on.
(Here is the Barbie house which, thank you Santa, I did eventually get!)

Another favorite was the Avon catalog. I would scour that thing for new lip gloss. I loved the small lip glosses that looked like things like a chocolate chip cookie. You would untwist the cookie and what do you know LIP GLOSS inside the cookie! How cool is that? I had a fried egg, coke bottle, and box of crayons,a hamburger, pack of gum, a heart, and more. All lip gloss. All my friends collected them.

Another thing was those cute little perfumes. I had one that was a skunk(I did find a picture that had the skunk, it was blurry...) it was a pin that I would very fashionably wear on my shirt. Its belly had a flap that lifted up and inside was a solid (similar to lip gloss actually) perfume, probably Sweet Honesty, that I could delicately dap on my wrist. Ahhh the memories, I adored being a very tiny young girl in the...gulp… 70's.

I Rest My Case!

Nowhere on this thing does it even imply snow. Yet somehow this is what I woke up too...You cant see in the photos but it was actively snowing. I LOVE IT!!!!

I have not made it to Arkansas to get that weather rock you saw Catherine, but I appreciate the suggestion. I think it will work out better for me. I have noticed one pattern that you can pretty much count on here, and that is that it only snows on Sunday. Sometimes Saturday too but very rarely during the week and when it does it is always during rush hour. Luckily the schedule for tornados is on a completely different plan...Saturdays only.

From what I understand Utah is having all the luck with snow. They get a foot or two every other day in that place....Luckys!
